Timothy Q. Elliott (they/he) is a clinical social worker licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and DC, and a workshop presenter, clinical educator, and supervisor specializing in trauma treatment and gender
and sexual identity development. They are widely known for translating complex clinical concepts into practical, skills-based training for clinicians working with high-acuity and marginalized
populations. His approach is strengths-based and depathologizing, with a focus on building provider capacity to deliver ethical, attuned, and effective care.
Timothy earned their BA in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and their MSW from Andrews University. He brings over 15 years of experience across schools, outpatient mental health, federally qualified health centers, and government-based programs. They most recently served as Coordinator of Youth Mental Health Programs at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC, where they led and supervised multidisciplinary clinical teams providing low-barrier outpatient services for youth and young adults impacted by complex trauma. His systems-level experience informs his teaching on how
organizations can better support both clients and clinical staff in high-demand environments.
They now own and operate a private psychotherapy practice in Arlington, VA, where they provide outpatient
psychotherapy, clinical supervision, consultation, and professional trainings for mental health providers. His
clinical and teaching specialties include complex trauma, dissociation, depression and anxiety, sexual and
gender identity development, and clinician well-being topics such as vicarious trauma, burnout, and
compassion fatigue. He integrates EMDR, somatic interventions, expressive arts, and other mind-body
approaches in both clinical work and training contexts.
Timothy has presented at local and national conferences and has been featured on podcasts and radio
programs including Living Breathing Medicine and Inside Out Collective: LGBTQ+ Talk Radio Show. He
is the recipient of the 2017 Youth Champion of the Year Award from the DC Center for the LGBT
Community and has served on multiple advisory and leadership bodies, including the District of Columbia’s
Victim Assistance Network. He currently co-chairs the Advisory Council for Rainbow Youth Alliance,
supporting LGBTQ+ youth through peer-based programming and community advocacy. He also serves as
an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work, where he teaches
graduate students advanced clinical interventions and practice-based skills.
Outside of clinical work and teaching, Timothy can often be found hiking local trails, reading, or spending
time with his two Siamese cats, Dennis/Denise and Melvin, who are regular features on Instagram at
